Education is a century-old plan

Dear Dr. Peter Stevenson-Moore, Chair :

Dear Dr. Peter Stevenson-Moore, Chair

There is a proverb in Chinese traditional culture : Education is a century-old plan. Therefore, we refer to the Chinese medicine education in Mainland China and Taiwan, and the CTCMA has a Board Chair with complete medical professional training and rich clinical experience. It should be the time to be revised the school education of traditional Chinese medicine in British Columbia. The suggestions are as follows:

1. Starting from 2022 admission, after passing the license exam, they must receive "Two-year Clinical Training" in the school and at least 24 hours a week before they can practice. Similar to family physician training in British Columbia, Taiwan Chinese traditional medicine practitioners have been implementing it for several years and have been very successful.

2. Chinese medicine in Mainland China and Taiwan has three major specialies : acupuncture, Chinese medicine, and Tui-na (Acupressure). There are also acupuncture, Chinese medicine and Tui-na research institutes, and doctors degrees. The education of the school of Traditional Chinese Medicine in British Columbia should also be divided into three professional courses and license examinations. Company insurance is also included in Acupressure, but it cannot be obtained without a license.

3. Traditional Chinese medicine is a medical professional and should not adopt the market elimination mechanism. Therefore, starting from 2022 admission, the pass standard for the license examination should be raised, that is, the number of pass should be reduced.

4. During my tenure as the president of the BCTCM Association, I learned that the traditional Chinese medicine practitioners in British Columbia lacking knowledge of the BCTCM law and Regulation. I strongly recommend that the school's education should be taught with two credits (2 credits).

5. There are about 20 associate professors and PhD who have not been reused by the CTCMA. Instead, many have not graduated from a formal Chinese medicine university and have served in the CTCMA. I think this is my fault.

I received five years of training as a Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PMR) specialist at Taipei Veterans General Hospital(TVGH). I also learned hundreds of hours of acupuncture knowledge. It is a great honour to be able to study a complete Chinese medicine education in British Columbia for five years. I also admire the Chair as a specialist in oral oncology & Prosthodontics. I believe that the Chair is a gentleman will definitely support it. The completion of the "British Columbia Chinese Medicine Education Reform" during the Chair term will also benefit the public and health of the people in the BC.

Warm Regards,

President (理事長) : Chu, Kuo Hsiang Reagan

R.TCM.P. (BC), MD & PMR Specialist (Taipei)
